The Beauty of Palimanan Sandstone
Palimanan Stone (Batu Palimanan) is a premium type of sandstone originating from the quarries of Cirebon, Jawa Barat. Unlike volcanic stones, Palimanan is sedimentary, formed from layers of sand accumulating over millions of years. This process gives it a distinctive bright cream-to-yellow coloring and beautiful natural fiber patterns that often resemble wood grain.
This stone is a favorite for tropical-themed resorts, spas, and villas in Bali and worldwide. It instantly brightens up spaces and creates a warm, welcoming, and earthy feeling. Because of its light color, it reflects sunlight effectively, preventing heat buildup on building facades.
Varieties: Golden vs Bobos
Palimanan Golden
Features a rich, brownish-yellow hue with very distinct, strong fiber grains. It has a more rustic and natural appearance, perfect for garden walls or exterior pillars.
Palimanan Bobos
Much lighter, almost white or creamy. The grain is subtler and less pronounced. It is slightly denser and harder than the Golden variety, giving a cleaner, more modern look.
Common Applications
- Wall Cladding: Adds warmth to exterior or interior walls. Often used in "Rough Face" finish for texture.
- Pillars & Columns: Very popular for wrapping rectangular pillars in resorts to reduce the visual hardness of concrete.
- Pool Decking: The 'Bobos' variety, being light-colored, stays cool and is often used for pool coping (though we recommend honing it to avoid sharpness).
Care Instructions
Like most light-colored porous stones, Palimanan can show moss or algae if constantly wet and shaded. For outdoor installation, we highly recommend applying a clear, breathable stone sealer immediately after installation. This will maintain its bright yellow color and prevent organic growth.
